{"name":"Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, 1996","created_by":"Alex Webb","description":"From his first visit in 1975, he was immediately captivated by the vibrant life in the streets of Mexico. While his early black and white photos often feature stark, striking graphics, his foray into color photography starting in 1978—inspired by the light and color of the Mexican streets—marks a turning point in his work.\n\nThroughout his work from Mexico, his rich compositions create compelling visual complexity—‘La Calle’ features strong, saturated colors, which evoke haunting, enigmatic scenes of the everyday. “I work extremely intuitively. I wander, I respond,” he says. “Am I aware of certain elements rationally at times? Sure. But I think that often when I am more aware of them, it usually means that the picture falls flat.”\n\nWebb somehow manages to capture these surprising scenes, which add an otherworldly poetry to the genre of street photography.","attributes":[{"trait_type":"Artist","value":"Alex Webb"},{"trait_type":"Collection","value":"La Calle"},{"trait_type":"Year","value":"1996"},{"trait_type":"Scene","value":"Exterior"},{"trait_type":"Medium","value":"35 mm"},{"trait_type":"Edition","value":"1 of 1"},{"trait_type":"Location","value":"Nuevo Laredo, Mexico"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"La Calle: Photographs from Mexico (co-published by Aperture and Televisa Foundation in 2016)"},{"trait_type":"License","value":"© Alex Webb"},{"trait_type":"Copyright","value":"© Alex Webb 2023 All Rights Reserved"},{"trait_type":"File Size","value":"4000 × 2684 px (2.5 MB)"},{"trait_type":"Private Collection","value":"Televisa Foundation, Mexico City"},{"trait_type":"Museum Collection","value":"Witliff Collection, San Marcos, Texas"},{"trait_type":"Museum Collection","value":"Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Crossings (Monacelli Press, 2003)"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"The Suffering of Light (Aperture Foundation, 2011)"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb on Street Photography and the Poetic Image (Aperture Foundation, 2014)"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Slant Rhymes [with Rebecca Norris Webb], (La Fabrica, Madrid) 2017"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"I Grandi Fotografi Magnum Photos, (Hachette, Milano, 2004 also Paris, Belgium, Montreal)"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"A History of Street Photography, Joel Meyerowitz, Colin Westerbeck (Little Brown & Co.)"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Street Photography Now, Sophie Howarth and Stephen McLaren, Thames and Hudson"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Cartier-Bresson: A Question of Colour, Positive View Foundation"},{"trait_type":"Book","value":"Eyes Open, Susan Meiselas, Aperture Foundation"},{"value":"Reading Magnum, Stephen Hoelscher, Harry Ransome Center","trait_type":"Book"},{"value":"Magnum Degree, Phaidon","trait_type":"Book"}],"image_details":{"bytes":2478330,"format":"JPEG","sha256":"0662bfb7fb89733e68b5e7c4bd28aa5319a890560049e2802f0c3cf26f6cdd69","width":4000,"height":2684},"image":"https://arweave.net/GtxE9WBV3SwKTx6GZmEiRF626HxsK2Zj2FXmdxC50Us","image_url":"https://arweave.net/GtxE9WBV3SwKTx6GZmEiRF626HxsK2Zj2FXmdxC50Us"}
